Community Care services at Alpine Health including alpine@home and indigo@home have undergone an extensive service review that has brought about changes to the Community Care Services program at Alpine Health.

Key Changes

  • New positions to support the provision of local services for local people including Community Care Business Development, Support Worker Supervisor and Social Support Coordinator.
  • Investment of funds into the co-location of alpine and indigo@home care offices and technical infrastructure.

Nick Shaw Alpine Health CEO said “these necessary changes to the structure of the Community Care Services team will bring about improved care outcomes for our clients and improved pay and conditions for our home care support workers who provide direct care and support to allow many members of our community to remain at home for longer and to remain connected in their local communities”

About the Community Care Services at Alpine Health

Alpine Health delivers Community Services across both the Alpine and Indigo Shires under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), through the provision of home care packages (in home service), a focus on health promotion through the Early Intervention Program, and the provision of district nursing across the Alpine community.

The Community Care Service review was required due to;
  • The growth of the home care services program and increased need within the community for home based care.
  • Changes by Federal Government of the introduction of the Support at Home Program in July 2023, incorporating the existing service models (CHSP, package care, NDIS support, amongst others) in a single model of consumer controlled care.
  • The findings from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, and blue print for the quality and sustainability of community based health care.
  • The growing difficulty experienced in sustaining the care workforce due to casual employment contracts with sessional / care episode based remuneration for care staff, supported by an administrative workforce with contracts of fixed term employment aligned to the periods of funding.
